Softpad is a simple and free tabbed text editor for Windows. It's similar to Notepad but has some extra features. It's meant to be small and fast. Please note that the project is in a very early stage and is not fully coded yet.
Ultimately, Softpad will have the following features:
- A tabbed interface (with drag and drop to rearrange) [implemented since v.1]
- A Favorites system [implemented since v.2]
- Escape to close (via an option) [implemented since v.1]
- Ability to store settings in INI file or registry [v.1 saved to registry, v.2 saves to INI, will work with both ultimately]
- Ability to show line numbers [not implemented yet]
- Ability to highlight the current line [not implemented yet]

- 9.28.07: Softpad v.3 has been released. More features and a few fixes are in this new release. Please see the project page for details.
- 9.23.07: Softpad v.2 has been released. This release gives substantial updates to the previous one and should be mostly usable. However, there still are things unimplemented and not fully working. Please see the project page for details.
- 9.16.07: Softpad v.1 has been released. Being the first release, it is not fully functional and is just the beginning. Please see the project page for details.
- 9.1.07: Work on the project has started.
